Internet Safety

  • Place your computer in a central location in your home so you can monitor computer activity.
  • Establish rules and agreements for using the computer and Internet. Monitor the time children spend on the computer.
  • Learn about the computer and the Internet and become computer savvy.
  • Teach youth not to communicate any personal information about themselves (i.e. name, address, phone number, age, school, etc.)
  • Teach young people to turn the monitor off and get an adult if something should come up on the screen that is not appropriate.
  • Communicate with your child via e-mail or instant messaging. This will give you an opportunity to learn about technology. It will also help you to be able to talk to your child when needed.
  • Develop a good understanding of security issues.
