Internet Safety

  • Do not share personal information about yourself (i.e. name, address, phone number, age, school, etc.)
  • If something inappropriate comes up on the screen, turn the monitor off and get an adult.
  • When creating a screen name, do not include personal information like your last name or date of birth.
  • Do not share your password with anyone but your parents.
  • Don’t agree to meet online friends in person without a parent’s permission.
  • Don’t buy anything online without talking to your parents first.
  • Don’t respond to ads that say you have won a prize or that offer you a free gift. Many are using these tricks to collect your personal information.
  • Talk to your parents before you open an email attachment or download software. Some attachments contain viruses.
  • Tell an adult if you receive a mean or insulting message. Do not send one in response.
  • Talk to your librarian, teacher or parent about safe and accurate websites for research.
  • Do not sign up for a social networking account such as Facebook, Twitter or Second Life without a parent’s permission.
